How to Cocreate a Public Verse?(1)
Practice means a lot. After several talks with some ppl from crypto and desci community, we found the fact that too many deep thoughts, ambitious young ppl and hardcore tech or research. However, how to assemble these elements together to fix some public problem is still a very open question right now.
Here is some of our framework over several practices on DAO or public contributions.
1) The genuine publicity: How to address the publicity is the key start. Most of ppl still misunderstand the difference between public protocols and private products. If you wanna build a private company, traditional ways of following the regulatory rules are still needed. But if you wanna create some public protocols for our human generation, surely, you need to realize from day1 that the publicity is definitely different from what the startups used to do before. Simply speaking, publicity is for us, not only for me. Then no matter where you get started, permissionless will be needed for the long term.
Form your advocates of publicity with our community. The easy way to build up publicity is to leverage the community we are deeply entangled with. Wonderful debates and talks happen in these communities. We need to form our thoughts and narrative from day1. No matter if it's online or offline. First add on some more thinking blocks and then cut off to be simple and sharp. Community is not a logical way to do that, but it’s the attitude and intuition to address this publicity.
Usually, our name and manifesto mean a lot to this publicity. Not only the words themselves, but also the process to create these are more important. Most of us are too rushed on this stuff, but we really need to be patient enough to form these primary stands for our core community.
Obviously, it’s challenging to form a matrix for this publicity, especially right now, the very very early stage of the paradigm shift of public creations. But a genuine and sincere attitude would be our armor. Then we will unite the future community as a whole with the same characters, contributors, we all are.
2) The trust-minimized legitimacy: what we need now is reliable trust-minimization in different dimensions.
Trust-minimization VS decentralization, we need to know the difference and then construct different kinds of trust models in our own scenarios or cases. Following this simple rule, we could co-work with our initial core members to form our simple principles. The simple principles will generate lots of security and stability in the long run.
Understanding this term and building up some framework of principles are the first step. We don’t need to be absolutists. However, with no principles usually lead us to a very fragile way to create public protocols. The fast scaling of the system could damage our overall security too.
Some simple ones as we thought are, try to design the system as simple and sharp as you can, especially on the first day. Most of the time, we don’t like too many adds-on the first day, the system will become very overstaffed.
Be as open as you can, the key of building such a system is that feedback is very important, especially some really constructive feedback that we could have. No matter how small our community of day 1 is, we need to try our best to get the high-valuable feedback. If this process goes dynamic, soon or late we will be there.
3) The outer efficiency:
Here comes the common view on the economic part we care about. Some ppl misunderstand this public protocol as non-profit, this is a very traditional angle to see this. The new landscape of public protocols definitely are qualified to generate the economic value in itself substantially and sustainably.
We need to generate the marginal value of the protocol first. Think about this as a key. And our strategies are formed together from thinking about here. Positioning is a simple way to find a kickstart in the complex economy right now. Only with the whole research on the landscape we are addressing, we could find our PMF position at different stages.
Co-Creation means the investors, partners, users, all these contributors mean a lot with our strategies. Definitely identifying our coherent power together is very important. Different eyes will contribute to the whole map of our fast evolving landscapes.
Don’t design a zero-sum game or try to avoid this from day 1. As an initiator, we hold the responsibility to design the game. Once we realize this point, an endless game is very likely we wanna play in the long run. A zero-sum game will hurt the community, also ourselves.
The economic model could be very innovative. However, the cash flow model is still very key to this, no matter what kind of economy you are addressing. This is why layer 1 and exchanges survive bulls and bears. A solid cash flow model make our economy very elastic from the market.
